ABSTRACT
This study used intersubject representational similarity analysis (IS-RSA) to identify participant-response consistency patterns in previously published data. Additionally, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized to detect any variations in the conditions of each experiment. In each experiment, a combination of ASMR stimulation, visual and auditory stimuli, and time-series emotional video stimulation was employed, and emotional ratings and physiological measurements were collected in accordance with the respective experimental conditions. Every pair of participants’ measurements for each stimulus in each experiment was correlated using Pearson correlation coefficient as part of the IS-RSA. The results of study revealed a consistent response pattern among participants exposed to ASMR, visual, and auditory stimuli, in contrast to those exposed to time-series emotional video stimulation. Notably, the ASMR experiment demonstrated a high level of response consistency among participants in positive conditions. Furthermore, both auditory and visual experiments exhibited remarkable consistency in participants' responses, especially when subjected to high arousal levels and visual stimulation. The findings of this study confirm that IS-RSA serves as a valuable tool for summarizing and presenting multidimensional data information. Within the scope of this study, IS-RSA emerged as a reliable method for analyzing multidimensional data, effectively capturing and presenting comprehensive information pertaining to the participants.

ABSTRACT
This study examined the affective representation and response consistency among individuals using affective videos, a naturalistic stimulus inducing emotional experiences most similar to those in daily life. In this study, multidimensional scaling was conducted to investigate whether the various affective representations induced through video stimuli are located in the core affect dimensions. A cross-participant classification analysis was also performed to verify whether the video stimuli are well classified. Additionally, the newly developed intersubject correlation analysis was conducted to assess the consistency of affective representations across participant responses. Multidimensional scaling revealed that the video stimuli are represented well in the valence dimension, partially supporting Russell (1980)'s core affect theory. The classification results showed that affective conditions were successfully classified across participant responses. Moreover, the intersubject correlation analysis showed that the consistency of affective representations to video stimuli differed with respect to the condition. This study suggests that the affective representations and consistency of individual responses to affective videos varied across different affective conditions.

ABSTRACT
The term and concept of “immortality” has garnered a considerable amount of attention worldwide. However, research on this topic is lacking, and the question of when the mind of a deceased individual survives death has yet to be answered. This research investigates whether morality and mind perception of the dead correlate with immortality. Study 1 measures the perceived immortality of people, who were good or evil in life. The results show that the perceived morality is related with the perceived immortality. Moreover, participants indicated the extent to which each person had maintained a degree of morality and agency/experience of the mind. Therefore, morality and mind perception toward a person are related to perceived immortality. In Study 2, participants were asked to read three essays on robots (good, evil, and nonmoral), and had to indicate the extent to which each robot maintains a degree of immortality, morality, and agency/experience of the mind. The results show that good spirits of a robot are related to higher scores of mind perception toward the robot, resulting in increasing tendency of perceived immortality. These results provide implications that the morality of humans and robots can mediate the relationship between mind perception and immortality. This work extends on previous research on the determinants of social robots for overcoming difficulties in human-robot interaction.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of resilience on information processing. Thirty-nine male high school students were randomly selected and assigned to one of the three experimental groups: (1) high group (n = 13), (2) middle group (n = 13) and low group (n = 13) according to their resilience scale (KRQ-53) scores. The tasks were simple reaction time, choice reaction time-1, and choice reaction time -2. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was measured at Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, Fz, Cz and Pz. A 3 × 8 × 4 (groups × areas × times) ANOVA with repeated measures on the last factor was calculated to determine resilience effects on EEG. P300 was analyzed using a 3 × 3 × 8 (groups × tasks × areas) ANOVA. The results showed that the theta waves of the middle group were higher than those of the high and low groups. Second, as a result of analyzing alpha waves, the high group demonstrated higher alpha waves than the middle and low groups. Third, the mid-beta waves of the middle and low groups were higher than those of the high group. Lastly, the result of this study showed that the P300 amplitude of the middle group was higher than that of the high and low groups. These results indicated that the middle group processed cognitive information more efficiently than the other two groups. The findings of this study demonstrated that cognitive information processing ability varies depending on the degree of resilience.

KJSES 26(3) 53-68, 2023 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2023.26.3.53 |
ABSTRACT
Materialism can be triggered by various social events. Based on theories on functions of materialistic goal pursuit, this study investigates how social exclusion evokes desires related to one's identity, resulting in an increase in materialism. Specifically, we predicted that social exclusion would increase the desire for control and belonging, thus leading to higher levels of materialism. Moreover, based on the theory of the approach tendency of power, we further predicted that individuals with a higher sense of power would experience greater desires for belonging and control when faced with social exclusion. To examine the hypotheses, we conducted an experiment using 202 Korean women. The results indicated that social exclusion resulted in an increase in the desire for control, thus increasing materialism. This relationship is stronger for individuals with a high sense of power, and the path from social exclusion to materialism based on the need for control is significant for those with a high sense of power. Although social exclusion increases the need to belonging, the relationship between the need to belonging and materialism is not significant, and its mediating effect was not supported in this study. Based on these findings, we discussed implications and directions for future research.

KJSES 26(3) 83-100, 2023 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2023.26.3.83 |
ABSTRACT
This study determines whether the perception of the frequency of experiencing positive, negative, and surprise emotions changes according to the level of cognitive well-being. Furthermore, we determined practical means to analyze which emotions can be managed in daily life as an effective means of improving overall life satisfaction by identifying representative specific emotions that strongly predict the level of cognitive well-being. To this end, the between-subjects factorial design is adopted to measure the frequency of emotional experiences according to the level of cognitive well-being in 438 university undergraduate students. For cognitive well-being, the life satisfaction scale (SWLS) was used, and the PANAS-X scale was used to measure emotional frequency. As a result, first, the group with high cognitive well-being displays a higher frequency of positive and surprise emotional experiences and a lower frequency of negative emotional experiences than the group with low cognitive well-being. Second, the results confirm that representative emotions affecting cognitive well-being included 8 positive emotions, 7 negative emotions, and 1 surprise emotion. Among them, positive emotions include “happy” and “confident,” negative emotions include “dissatisfied with self” and “disgusted with self,” and surprise emotions include words such as “amazed.” Therefore, we can conclude that the representative emotions are those with the greatest influence on cognitive well-being. Therefore, increasing the frequency of specific emotions (e.g., happy, confident, and surprise) and decreasing the frequency of others (e.g., dissatisfied with self and disgusted with self) could be effective in improving cognitive well-being than unconditionally examining emotions experienced in daily life.

KJSES 26(3) 101-114, 2023 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2023.26.3.101 |
ABSTRACT
Pets are increasingly becoming vital companions in human life, prompting researchers to focus on understanding the grief experiences of pet owners. Unlike other forms of loss, pet loss often leads to complicated grief, characterized by intense and prolonged sorrow. This is likely due to the comparatively lower societal value placed on the human-pet relationship, which may restrict pet owners from feeling truly understood by others. The subjective perception of these “social constraints” significantly hampers the process of recovering from pet loss and contributes to the development of complicated grief. In this study, we hypothesize that the perceived social constraints could intensify the transition from the initial shock of pet loss to complicated grief. The results confirm that pet owners’ perceived social constraints play a moderating role in the relationship between the shock of pet loss and complicated grief. Notably, pet owners experience heightened levels of complicated grief when perceiving greater social barriers and constraints. By highlighting the pivotal role of perceived social constraints in comprehending the experiences of pet loss and grief, this study underscores the importance of social awareness and improvement.

ABSTRACT
This study examines the effects of a new app-based intervention program for conversational skills of children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Participants in this study comprised 26 children diagnosed with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, or pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS). Participants were randomly assigned into a treatment group or a control group according to their ages, IQ, SCQ, and ASSQ scores. The treatment group met with teachers once a week for a single non-face-to-face class for nine weeks, along with conversation training at home using an app. The control group did not participate in any specific programs for conversational skills. Conversation data of all participants were collected before and after the intervention to compare the two groups based on changes in the conversational turn-taking and topic manipulation skills. When analyzed with respect to a Group X Period analysis of variance (ANOVA), the data indicated maintenance on the rate of appropriate listener’s verbal responses in the treatment group, whereas the rate of inappropriate listener’s verbal response significantly declined in the control group. In addition, the rate of conversation initiation and maintenance and the rate of appropriate initiation improved in the treatment group, whereas the rate of inappropriate initiation declined in this group. Overall, the study demonstrates promising effects of the novel App-based digital intervention on verbal conversational skills in children with high function ASD.

KJSES 26(3) 129-148, 2023 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2023.26.3.129 |
ABSTRACT
This study verifies the effect of self-awareness on life satisfaction, depression, and anxiety as mental health indicators. An online survey, including self-awareness, life satisfaction, depression, and anxiety, was conducted on 300 adolescents, and the relationship between variables was observed through multiple regression analysis. As a result, adolescents’ overall self-awareness significantly affected life satisfaction, depression, and anxiety. Moreover, the effect of self-awareness was confirmed on mental health by dividing it into private, public, and situational self-awareness: life satisfaction was predicted by public and situational self-awareness, while depression and anxiety were predicted through private self-awareness. The result shows that adolescents' self-awareness generally affects their mental health; however, positive and negative emotional factors are differentially affected by different types of self-awareness. This study confirms the importance of self-awareness in the process of improving mental health and quality of life in adolescence.
