ABSTRACT
For satisfying consumer needs, commercial facilities require a variety of sale-related space expressions and eye-catching product arrangements; space composition can also be a direct marketing strategy. The human eye is the sensory organ that acquires the largest amount of information, and an analysis of visual information helps in understanding visual relations between < spaces and users >. However, the existing studies are mostly focused on analysis of still frames in experimental images, and there is a lack of studies analyzing gaze information based on mobile images of commercial spaces. Therefore, this study analyzed emotional responses through gaze information of space users in reality using a video of a movement route through a commercial facility. The analysis targeted straight sections of the moving route; based on the data acquired, sectional characteristics of five gaze intensity ranges were examined. As a result, section A, the starting point of the route, had a low gaze intensity, while section B had the highest gaze intensity. This indicates that, starting in section B, the subjects explored the space in a stable way and needed time to adapt to the experimental video. In relation to space characteristics of the gaze-concentrated area, display formats of the right stores in 4 of 6 sections received greater attention. The gaze of consumers was mostly focused on props, and big gaze information was revealed in showcase display formats of the stores. In conclusion, this analysis method can provide highly useful direct design data about merchandise display and merchandise component arrangement based on consumer visual preference.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to conduct eye-tracking experiments to target large spaces and to analyze the characteristics of pupil gaze by gender. By analyzing the change of pupil size in the eye-tracking experiment, we suggest a template for objective and scientific analyses of gender observation data. Additionally, based on the difference between gender and time to pupil size change, we noted the characteristic of time that gather the visual perception data information and showed that females attend to interesting elements of visual information one to two seconds slower than males. In the initial 「1sec→2sec」, the pupil size has been increased in leap condition of male and in fixed condition of female. In addition, if condition limits to fixed observation to view the change rates on gender then the pupil size of female was larger than male before 9 seconds, while male's pupil size was larger after 9 seconds. This indicates that females obtain visual information through a relatively larger pupil size during the first 1-8 seconds after stimulus presentation, while males acquire it between 10-15 seconds after input. However, based on the result that the pupil size of female was larger than male on the change of observation time, the pupil size movement on female was energized to watch more interest element after a certain period of time.

ABSTRACT
As information technology is more actively incorporated into automobiles, the role of IVIS (In-Vehicle Infotainment System) is becoming increasingly important for providing convenience and entertainment for drivers. However, using the infotainment systems while driving requires task switching and attending to two visual resources simultaneously. We simulated a setting where participants have to drive while interacting with the infotainment system and examined how task difficulty and motor cues impact driver task-switching and driving performance, specifically whether the effects of motor cues differ depending on task difficulty. For the infotainment display, we used two types of number array depending on the congruency between the digit repetition and the chunking unit, while task difficulty was manipulated by the size of the touch-keys. Participants were instructed to dial two numbers on the screen while we recorded the dialing time, lateral position, inter-key press intervals, and steering wheel control. We found that dialing time and lateral position were affected by task difficulty, while the type of number array had no effect. However, the inter-key press intervals between chunked numbers and steering wheel movement both increased when participants had to use an incongruent number array, which indicates that, if number digits are repeated, chunking is ignored by the drivers. Our findings indicate that, in a dual-task condition, motor cues offset the effect of chunking and can effectively signal the timing for task switching.

KJSES 21(2) 43-60, 2018 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2018.21.2.43 |
ABSTRACT
The primary goal of this study is to investigate the effects of individual's subjective social status on meaning of work. We hypothesized that individual's subjective social status, defined as the respect and influence an individual has at her/his workplace, would promote meaning of work. Further, we hypothesized that individual's subjective social status would be more highly associated with meaning of work based on her/his occupation's subjective social status. Using two experimental studies, we found that individual's subjective social status increased meaning of work in American (Experiment 1) and South Korean working adults (Experiment 2). Participant's meaning of work was more influenced by individual subjective social status than occupation subjective social status (Experiment 1). Also, the results from Experiment 2 indicated that objective social status within an organization (i.e., rank) moderated the effects of individual subjective social status on meaning of work, such that the beneficial effects of individual subjective social status on meaning of work were found only for participants with low objective social status. In contrast, meaning of work in participants with high objective social status did not vary depending on subjective social status. We discussed the implications of these results, study limitations, and directions for future research.

KJSES 21(2) 61-72, 2018 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2018.21.2.61 |
ABSTRACT
Different types of traditional Korean clothes (Hanbok) are appearing in the market with the increasing interest of culture consumers. In order to turn traditional Korean clothes into everyday clothes that adequately reflect various demands of culture consumers, it is important to satisfy both functional and emotional aspects of clothing. However, there is lack of existing studies on emotions of culture consumers while wearing traditional Korean clothes. In this study, 28 emotional words regarding traditional Korean clothes were extracted by applying the Delphi method and conformity rating survey to 182 emotional words reported in existing studies and references from areas such as psychology, linguistics, and sensibility engineering. The 28 selected emotional words can be used to express emotions felt by culture consumers about traditional Korean clothes. Also, words were grouped based on the correlation according to factor analysis. Based on common characteristics, the emotional words were classified into 6 categories of ‘pleasure,’ ‘aesthetic sense,’ ‘harmony,’ ‘novelty,’ ‘likability,’ and ‘stability.’ These 6 emotional categories were concluded to represent emotions of consumers about traditional Korean clothes. The 28 emotional words and 6 representative emotions noted in this study can be used as basic data for measuring emotions of culture consumers of traditional Korean clothes. A future study task is to design a detailed assessment scale to measure emotions of culture consumers about traditional Korean clothes using representative emotions.

ABSTRACT
The present study examined how processing features of visual information near the hand would affect task switching. Recent studies reported enhanced cognitive control of visual information presented the near hands. To investigate the enhancement of cognitive control based on the relationship between hand proximity and attention, we implemented 2 experiments. In the task switching performance experiment, the hand proximity effect depended on modality of cue and target. The first experiment showed that stimuli near the hand received greater cognitive control than stimuli far from the hand, resulting in smaller switch cost. The result could rule out the feature-binding problem, which identifies reduced switch cost as the cause instead of hand proximity. Our results show that hand proximity actually reduced switch cost. In the second experiment, we examined the effects of hand nearness, modality, and their interaction on switch cost. In task switching, the target was always visual, and the cue was presented either visually or auditorily. In addition, we manipulated the cue-target interval to observe the preparation effect of cue. The results showed that a visual cue near the hand reduced switch cost by shortening task preparation time. Also, modality switching between an auditory cue and visual target was remarkable in a hand-near condition. The results for the visual cue could be interpreted as a benefit of rapid visual attention orienting. On the other hand, the results for the auditory cue could be interpreted as the cost of interference of modality switching by slower attentional disengagement of stimuli near the hands. Finally, modulation of switch cost by attention induced by hand nearness was discussed.

KJSES 21(2) 89-100, 2018 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2018.21.2.89 |
ABSTRACT
This study was performed to develop face towel fabrics that reflect consumer's tactile preferences. Three different kinds of pile fiber (100% cotton, 50% cotton/50% bamboo, 100% bamboo) of the towel fabrics were selected for the test. The towels were laundered one, five and 10 times repeatedly in a normal washing condition, and fabric softeners were applied to the towels that were laundered 10 times. The flexibility and absorbency (absorption rate and water absorptivity) were evaluated by laundering times of the face towels. Male and female university students evaluated their subjective sensations of the face towels. The flexibility of towel fabrics showed no significant difference according to type of pile fiber or laundering time. The absorbency of the towels was significantly different according to the type of pile fiber and laundering time. The absorption rate was higher in 100% bamboo fiber, and water absorptivity was higher for cotton fibers. There were no significant differences in subjective sensation according to the type of pile fiber of towels before laundering. As the frequency of laundering increased, the tactile preference for the towel slightly decreased. The 100% bamboo towel was rated the most comfortable among the three kinds of towels. The tactile preference for the towels was influenced by smoothness, fabric softness, and softener treatment, in that order.

KJSES 21(2) 101-112, 2018 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2018.21.2.101 |
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to enhance the competitiveness of blackbox design for domestic and international companies, based on the explosive growth of the blackbox market due to development of blackbox design for vehicle accident prevention and post-treatment. In the past, the blackbox market has produced products indiscriminately to meet the ever-increasing demand of consumers. Therefore, we thought a new design method was necessary to effectively investigate the needs of rapidly changing consumers. In this study, we aimed to identify the best-selling blackbox to understand the design flow, and the optimum area for a blackbox, considering the uniqueness of associated vehicle. Based on discussion with blackbox design experts, we studied the direction of design and the problems with blackbox use, which were reflected in blackbox development. Through this research, two types of design - leading blackbox (A type) and mass production blackbox (B type) - were proposed for compatibility of the blackbox with the car. The leading type of blackbox was positioned so that it was wrapped with the room mirror hinge before the screw was fastened, in order to achieve an integrated design. Therefore, we designed an integrated form and resolved the placement problem of an adhesive blackbox. To blend, the mass production blackbox implemented material and surface processing in the same way with the car, and adopted the slide structure to automatically turn off the main body power when removing the SDcard, reflecting consumer needs. This study considers evolving consumer needs through a case study and collective intelligence and deals with implementation of the whole design process during mass production. In this study, we aimed to strengthen the competitiveness of the blackbox design based on design method and its realization.

ABSTRACT
The logical assumption of the comparison question test (CQT) is that the guilty person pays more attention to the relevant questions than to the comparison questions, and that the innocent person pays more attention to the comparison questions than to the relevant questions. The purpose of this study was to verify the logic of the comparison question test using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The participants were tested for brain responses during a mock crime and performed the CQT under guilty and innocent conditions. After brain imaging, we evaluated the psychological burden of responding to the relevant questions and comparison questions. In the guilty conditions, the degree of burden was higher for the relevant questions than the comparison questions, and there was no significant difference in the innocent conditions. The fMRI results showed that, in the guilty conditions, greater activation was observed in the right superior temporal gyrus and right inferior frontal gyrus when relevant questions were presented relative to comparison questions. Based on these findings, the logical assumption of the CQT was discussed.

KJSES 21(2) 125-136, 2018 DOI : 10.14695/KJSOS.2018.21.2.125 |
ABSTRACT
Although atypical sensory processing is a core feature of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), there is considerable heterogeneity among ASD individuals in the modality and symptoms of atypical sensory processing. The present study examined visual processing of children with ASD, focusing on the complexity and orientation of visual information. Age- and -IQ-matched Korean children (14 ASD and 14 typically-developing (TD) children) received an orientation discrimination task involving static spatial gratings varied in complexity (simple versus complex) and orientation (horizontal versus vertical). The results revealed that ASD children had difficulty perceiving complex information regardless of orientation, whereas TD children had more difficulty with vertical gratings than horizontal gratings. Thus, group-level differences between ASD and TD children appeared greater when gratings were presented horizontally. Unlike ASD adult literature, however, ASD children did not show superior performance on simple gratings. Our findings on typical and atypical processing of ASD children have implications for both understanding the characteristics of ASD children and developing diagnostic tools for ASD.
