| Abstract |
| This study developed and implemented a liberal arts course titled “Heartwarming Stories” tailored to the emotional and experiential characteristics of adult learners, and analyzed its educational effectiveness as well as student experiences. Grounded in narrative learning theory and the ADDIE instructional design model, the course targeted core competencies in sharing and communication. It was designed as a 100% online curriculum integrating diverse narrative media―including historical narratives, films, dramas, animations, and documentaries―with emotional music. The course was operated over 15 weeks for 143 adult freshmen at University D. The data were analyzed using quantitative course evaluations and qualitative content analysis of students' reflective assignments. The course evaluation yielded a high overall adjusted score of 4.45 out of 5.0. Qualitative content analysis of reflective essays revealed four key themes: (1) reinterpretation of life and self-reflection, (2) recognition of the meaning of relationships and love, (3) healing after loss and integration of grief, and (4) gratitude for current life and commitment to future growth. These results suggest that the life experiences of adult learners can be transformed into meaningful learning resources through a narrative-based emotional curriculum, allowing them to re-examine their self-understanding, emotional recovery, and relational values. |
