ABSTRACT
We developed the decision support system by using the fuzzy theory. This system designs harmonious color space according to the linguistic input. This input represents the atmosphere which the user want. If the linguistic input of adjective image scale is given in the developed system, the relation between the adjective and color is supposed as fuzzy relation. The color which match with the whole atmosphere of color space is selected. The search region of harmonious color decision is controlled by the knowledge on color harmony of Moon-Spencer. Harmonious color is selected by it.

KJSES 11(1) 11-21, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the effect of depressive mood on identification of emotional facial expression. Participants were screened out of 305 college students on the basis of the BDI-II score. Students with BDI-II score higher than 14(upper 20%) were selected for the Depression Group and those with BDI-II score lower than 5(lower 20%) were selected for the Control Group. A final sample of 20 students in the Depression Group and 20 in the Control Group were presented with facial expression stimuli of an increasing degree of emotional intensity, slowly changing from a neutral to a full intensity of happy, sad, angry, or fearful expressions. The result showed that there was the significant interaction of Group by Emotion(esp. happy and sad) which suggested that depressive mood affects processing of emotional stimuli such as facial expressions. Implication of this result for mood-congruent information processing were discussed.

KJSES 11(1) 39-56, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
Previous studies of music, user interface, and human-computer interaction have used sounds which include musical structure rather than real music. This study investigated whether real music affects objective and perceived usability. Silence, sound, and music conditions were compared in experiment 1 (kimchi refrigerator) and 2 (remote controller for air conditioner). Participants` performances of reaction time and accuracy, and the degree of subjective satisfaction were analyzed. The results showed that main effects on task performances were not different significantly; however, perceived usability of music condition was better than sound condition, which was better than silence condition. It means that musical user interface improves perceived usability while not interfering task performance. This study provides a basis of emotional and aesthetic effects of music in home appliances design, and can be applied to studies for the blind. More specific guideline for the musical user interface can be drafted if further studies consider more various tasks, context, musical structure and types for the appliances.

KJSES 11(1) 57-68, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
With the shift of consumer`s spending behaviors further into emotionally-driven purchases, the role of brand is becoming even more important, which in turn, expands design`s role in the brand image strategy. The contact point between the consumers and the brand is the primary channel for building strong brand image through experience. Therefore, it is critical to comprehensively plan and manage the consumer contact point for any brand. Given the changing market conditions, the objective of this study is to define and structure an integrated design development and management system for building successful brand image. In order to do so, the research analyzed the characters of brand image, the conditions for consumer experience and the roles of emotion. The analysis into the correlation between images and emotion process model yields three natures of an image. The image 1) is based on empirical decisions, 2) expresses and conveys emotional aspects and 3) builds mental values through a sense of sympathy. Through case studies of successful designs that meet all three characteristics, the roles of a brand icon in building strong brand image and the needs for integrated design approach for implementation are defined. The methods for integrated design include 1) providing a focal point through brand image positioning, 2) utilizing visual themes based on brand image plot, 3) building a Total Identity Program to holistically manage brand images and 4) developing brand icons for brand image reinforcement.

KJSES 11(1) 69-80, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
The scheme to approach emotional design developed in various way of research without defining criterion of emotional way. A aim of this research to derive a new way of approaching system and construct the process in emotional design. In first experiments, analyze meaning of important factors in cooking kits to construct the model of emotional approaching system by the analysis of quantification theory type 3. This shows that four emotional factors as shape, atmosphere, functional matter, information are deeply related with emotional thinking and design. Consequently, the way of emotional approaching in cooking kit have several conditions essentially as following these; 1.Is it have functional advantages to cook? 2.Is it good looking in shape? 3.Is it possible to make some of mood on cooking? 4.How much information of cook we get in? These conditions were classified in detail to establish emotional design system.

KJSES 11(1) 91-104, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
This study searches for an abstract aesthetic dimension that has an important response to preference by finding products excluded in past studies on aesthetics. Furthermore, the adjective image languages are examined, grouped and examined in order to also take into account the dimensions that are regarded as important for the selected product. Based on this, the preference trends will be inferred and the level of aesthetic dimensions that are import in the product will be found and presented based on its preference to create an accurate objective point. Based on the values of the levels of the aesthetic preference types and aesthetic elements found by this and presenting the preferred types in the design process, the objective of this study is to create designs with small chance of failure. In addition, it attempts to present a new direction for research of aesthetic dimensions.

KJSES 11(1) 105-112, 2008 |
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of 40% oxygen administration on the addition task performance in three levels of difficulties and physiological signals. Ten male and female college students were selected as the subjects for this study. The experiment consisted of two runs: one was a addition task, with normal air (21% oxygen) administered and the other was with hyperoxic air (40% oxygen) administered. The experimental sequence in each run consisted of Rest1 (3 min), Task1 (1 min, one digit addition task), Task2 (1 min, two digit addition task), Task3 (1 min, three digit addition task), and Rest2 (4 min). Blood oxygen saturation and heart rate were measured throughout the five phases. The accuracy rates of the addition task were enhanced with 40% oxygen administration compared to 21% oxygen. Difference in the accuracy rates grew higher with the rise of difficulty. When 40% concentration oxygen is supplied, blood oxygen saturation increased and heart rate was decreased comparing to 21%. This study showed that the supply of high concentration oxygen increases blood oxygen saturation, which in turns accelerates brain activation resulting from cognitive process and enhances arithmetic abilities. Particularly when difficulty is high, demand for oxygen increases and, as a result, the effect of high concentration oxygen becomes more significant.
