This study examined affective representation by analyzing physiological responses measured using wearable devices and affective ratings in response to emotional videos. To achieve this aim, a published dataset was reanalyzed using multidimensional scaling to demonstrate affective representation in two dimensions. Cross-participant classification was also conducted to identify the consistency of emotional responses across participants. The accuracy and misclassification in each emotional condition were described by exploring the confusion matrix derived from the classification analysis. Multidimensional scaling revealed that the represented objects, namely, emotional videos, were positioned along the rated valence and arousal vectors, supporting the core affect theory (Russell, 1980). Vector fittings of physiological responses also showed the associations between heart rate acceleration and low arousal, increased heart rate variability and negative and high arousal, and increased electrodermal activity and negative and low arousal. Using the data of behavioral and physiological responses across participants, the classification results revealed that emotional videos were more accurately classified than the chance level of classification. The confusion matrix showed that awe, enthusiasm, and liking, which were categorized as positive, low arousal emotions in this study, were less accurately classified than the other emotions and were misclassified for each other. Through multivariate analyses, this study confirms the core affect theory using physiological responses measured through wearable devices and affective ratings in response to emotional videos.

This study aimed to develop a Korean word tool related to solitude and loneliness. Because collecting the right words is very important, words that express the two emotions were selected from three language dictionaries. At this time, related words were collected to specifically reflect the increasing number of people seeking voluntary solitude. Consequently, 1,768 words were collected. From these, 684 words were selected based on specific criteria that everyone can understand and use, and they went through a six-iteration selection process, which extracted a total of 243 words. Considering the nature of the study, the meanings of the words collected must be clear and comprehensively represent the overall aspects of solitude and loneliness. Accordingly, a total of 243 words were selected, focusing on words that received the highest ratings in terms of familiarity and appropriateness. It is expected that this study will establish a clear concept of solitude and loneliness and provide basic data that can be used to understand the realistic and universal perception of Koreans from a developmental perspective.

This study aimed to investigate the role of student immediacy in learning-related positive affective experiences in the technology-mediated education context. In particular, perceived social presence was expected to mediate the relationship between student immediacy and positive affect. Moreover, we hypothesized the moderating role of technology readiness in the relationship between student immediacy and perceived social presence. To test this hypothesis, a survey of approximately 500 undergraduate students who have attended non-face-to-face online courses was conducted. The results revealed that social presence fully mediated the relationship between immediacy and positive affect. That is, students who scored high on the immediacy scale tended to experience a greater level of social presence during online classes; consequently, they tended to demonstrate more positive affect. As expected, technology readiness moderated the relationship between immediacy and social presence. Unlike previous studies that mainly focused on instructor immediacy, the present study contributed to immediacy literature by empirically testing the positive effect of student immediacy on learning. Furthermore, this study revealed the potential importance of communication competence and its progress in predicting student participation and satisfaction, which could have been changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study aimed to develop a soft fabric-based elbow-bending angle sensor that can replace conventional hard-type inertial sensors and a system for estimating bending angles using it. To enhance comfort during exercise, this study treated four fabrics (Bergamo, E-band, span cushion, and polyester) by single-walled carbon nanotube dip coating to create conductive textiles. Subsequently, one fabric was selected based on performance evaluations, and an elbow flexion angle sensor was fabricated. Gauge factor, hysteresis, and sensing range were employed as performance evaluation metrics. The data obtained using the fabricated sensor showed different trends in sensor values for the changes in the angle during bending and extending movements. Because of this divergence, the two movements were separated, and this constituted the one-step process. In the two-step process, multilayer perceptron (MLP) was employed to handle the complex nonlinear relationships and achieve high data accuracy. Based on the results of this study, we anticipate effective utilization in various smart wearable and healthcare domains. Consequently, a soft- fabric bending angle sensor was developed, and using MLP, nonlinear relationships can be addressed, enabling angle estimation. Based on the results of this study, we anticipate the effective utilization of the developed system in smart wearables and healthcare.

This study aimed to gain valuable insights into the performance and user satisfaction of applications (apps) through a thorough analysis of Instagram user reviews collected from Google Play. The study utilized text mining and sentiment analysis techniques and systematically identified emotions and opinions embedded in user reviews to deeply understand the areas of improvement and user experiences of the app. It analyzes how Instagram reviews reflect the diverse experiences of users and how they reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the app. For this purpose, sentiment analysis using the naive Bayes algorithm was conducted, and the results were expected to aid in the improvement of Instagram’s services. In addition, the study aimed to assist developers in better understanding and utilizing user feedback, ultimately contributing to enhanced user satisfaction. This study explored the complex relationship between social media usage patterns and user opinions by seeking ways to provide a better user experience through these insights.

This study analyzed augmented reality (AR) technology use in the fashion industry by classifying them based on product, wearer, space, purpose, and use. In this study, 76 cases of AR technology use in the fashion industry that were analyzed in domestic and foreign portals (Google, Naver, etc.) and research articles were collected and analyzed. The study found that in AR technology cases, the dimensions of the product, wearer, and space were utilized in various ways, including real, virtual, and their combination. AR technology was used diversely and creatively in design and product development, marketing and publicity, fashion shows, try-ons, online and offline sales and distribution, etc. Through AR technology, the categories of fashion products, concept of fashion shows, try-on methods, marketing and promotional tools, and sales tools are expanded more creatively from the existing framework. For inclusive growth within the fashion industry in the future, the national government, local governments, and large corporations should develop measures in bridging the digital gap, such as the use of AR technology according to technological readiness, capital, and age.

Children play a crucial role in the lives of parents, but research on the parent-child relationship has focused mainly on its impact on parents’ social relationships and happiness. This study explored how parenting motives affect the association between parents’ relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being. Previous studies have suggested that the psychological benefits of achievement or positive experiences in specific life domains are dependent on the perceived importance of such domains. Thus, we hypothesized that a satisfying relationship with children can strongly predict the subjective well-being of parents with elevated parenting motives. The study included Korean (Study 1) and American (Study 2) participants. Results of both studies demonstrated a pronounced positive correlation between parents’ relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being in individuals with high levels of parenting motives. This moderating effect persisted even after controlling for relevant covariates (e.g., gender, age, and Big 5 personality traits). Notably, this effect was particularly evident in subfactors of subjective well-being, which is negative affect.
